Statement of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the American Orthodox Catholic Church
On Juneteenth and in the days that followed, an online publication released an article concerning the American Orthodox Catholic Church (AOCC). It included commentary regarding the Church's present discussions about its future. While the article has generated discussion, the Holy Synod of Bishops believes it is important to clarify the AOCC's official position so that our clergy, faithful, and those observing our Church may hear directly from its leadership.
The Holy Synod of Bishops has met, is in full agreement, and unanimously reaffirms the official position of the American Orthodox Catholic Church regarding its ongoing relationship with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOARCH).
The AOCC is willingly and actively engaged in direct communication with GOARCH concerning our reconciliation with the Church following a thorough canonical, pastoral, and administrative process. These conversations are being conducted in a spirit of mutual respect, openness, and Christian charity.
The Holy Synod wishes to emphasize that these discussions have been undertaken with the unanimous support of the bishops of the AOCC. We remain committed to seeking the will of God, preserving the unity of the Church, and acting with integrity throughout every stage of this journey.
We ask our clergy and faithful to continue praying for wisdom, discernment, humility, and peace for all involved. We also ask that speculation, rumor, and unnecessary division be set aside as we continue these discussions in the spirit of Christ, who prayed that His disciples "may all be one" (John 17:21).
The mission of the American Orthodox Catholic Church remains unchanged: to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, faithfully preserve the Orthodox Faith, administer the Holy Mysteries, and shepherd the people entrusted to our care.
May our Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of His Most Pure Mother and all the saints, grant wisdom to His Church and guide all of us according to His perfect will.
